Studying after 6-9 grades
Students graduate from secondary school after 8-9 grades at the age of 14-15 years and continue their education on GCSE program. The duration of studying is 2 years. The compulsory disciplines for studying:
- Foreign language
- Mathematics
- Natural sciences.
According to student’s interest and future specialization the pupil chooses 3-5 electives. The certificate of GCSE is highly valued by the UK universities.
If the studying is conducted in the Italian-speaking cantons, students can become an owner of certificate Esame di Stato after 10th grade. Note that before start of studying student chooses direction: humanitarian or exact sciences.
Education after 10th grade
By achieving the age of 16, the student can pass the IB program, which lasts 2 years. To student’s attention Pre-IB is offered. The aim of course is to update knowledge and to improve language skills. Having the certificate IB the student can successfully enrol in any universities in the world.
Educational process after 11th grade
At the age of 16 students can study on Swiss program, and after completing it receive certificate Schweizer Maturitat. Duration of the course is 2 years.
At the age of 17 years students can study on the preparatory program Foundation, lasting 1 year.
If the student wants to study in university of Germany or Austria, it is better to choose a program Das Deutsche Abitur, lasting 2 years. After finishing course the student pass 4 exams.
How to apply in Swiss schools?
The applicant must provide the documents:
- Passport copy
- Report card for the last 2 academic years
- International language certificates
- Recommendations from teachers of English and mathematics
- School forms
- Motivation letter – sometimes required
- Interview by Skype.
Moreover, it is compulsory for foreign students to pass tests in English and Mathematics.
